Our focus is on CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) as students learned how to build a sustainable home in a completely different environment.
The steps of our task were the following:
- Students used a compass and directions to travel through a blizzard to find shelter in a cabin.
- They had to travel into the woods to chop wood and make a fire.
- Children learned about the type of foods which would be well-preserved in that environment as they collected and stored cans of soup.
- Then they traveled to a frozen lake to catch a fish, learning how they interact with the world around them.
- They used the resources in the cabin to create a lamp.
This VR activity combined learning about the world, and the skills needed in a difficult environment, with immersive language learning.
Our young learners used directions, imperatives, task-specific vocabulary to enrich their English vocabulary.
